How can we Human Up with Emotional intelligence?

Growing up in this weird world we live in is.. confusing.

We have children with access to nuclear weapons. We got other kids trying to escape it. We got a bunch of kids exploiting themselves on the Internet and yet, still afraid to be honest and vulnerable. We got a lot of boys and girls not knowing how to physically and emotionally interact or flirt with each other. We have kids stuck in dead-end jobs, in tons of debt, having anxiety about whether or not they’ll ever find their purpose, dreaming of living a better life, but don’t know how to get out of their toxic environments, both externally and internally.

What do all of those kids have in common?

They were not taught about Emotional Intelligence.

I was one of them.

“Our feelings are not there to be cast out or conquered. They’re there to be engaged and expressed with imagination and intelligence.”

-T.K. Coleman

Society has trained us to be intellectuals. We value logical, reasonable, disciplined people who know how to follow rules, not ask too many questions or show too many feelings. We’ve become susceptible to vanity metrics, key performance indicators, margins and profits.

Or we idolize those who “man up,” who are always stoic, strong, and unmoved. And we shun those who are too emotional and sensitive, perceiving them as unstable and weak.

So we push our emotions away rather than learn to deal with them.

There aren’t many safe avenues for us to be fully ourselves. It’s what we all want more of, but we were never taught how to create these spaces for ourselves and those around us.

How many times have you tried to reach out for help, only to hear silence or have your trust betrayed?

How many times have you let your negative emotions, like fear, anxiety, and insecurity limit you from doing what you want to do?

How many times have you been on the other end and reacted poorly to someone else’s expression of sadness, anger, confusion, or even joy and excitement?

Everyone has been in one or more of these situations. But is there something we can do about it?

Can We Save the World?

Can we upgrade humanity? Can both men and women “human up” together? Can we learn to manage our emotions and limiting beliefs in order to live better lives?

I’m on the journey to figure that out for myself, and hopefully I can share what I’ve learned to help others live a life they can be passionate about, something to live for that’s bigger than themselves. But as we know, the bigger the dreams, the more resistance we feel. And I want to get past that! So I collected 11 methods we can practice and tap into our own existing wisdom, all into one document.
